The Smithstead began with a question: what does it really mean to live intentionally?

We started noticing the little things, the ingredients in our food, what was on our skin, the synthetic fragrances filling our home. Things that felt “normal” suddenly didn’t feel right. We wanted better, for ourselves and for our family.

Serving in the Army has taught us to think ahead, consider consequences, and pay attention to the details, lessons that naturally carried over into how we care for our home. So we started making more from scratch. Small-batch, handcrafted products using minimal, ethically and locally sourced ingredients. Each piece, each batch, was something we would use ourselves.

At first, it was just for us. Then friends noticed, asked questions, tried things, and shared their excitement. That’s when we realized we wanted to share it with more people, to offer products that are safe, thoughtful, and made with care, without compromising quality.

The Smithstead is more than products. It’s a homegrown approach to living intentionally, honoring the land, our values, and the simple idea that what we put in our homes and on our bodies matters.

We’re still learning, still refining, but every product we create comes from that same place: care, thoughtfulness, and a desire to do things well.
